Celebrating the 10th anniversary of Fête de la Musique in Egypt on June 25th, the Institut Français d’Egypte is organising a series of activities throughout the month that will include workshops, jam sessions, and a concert featuring French Indie Pop sensations, François & the Atlas Mountains.

The main event is a promising concert on June 25th, which will feature Egyptian and French bands rocking the stage at Al Azhar Park, followed by a performance by Egyptian star Dina El Wedidi, who will present her new album Turning back, and Brussels-based François & the Atlas Mountains, currently touring the Middle East.

IFE will also kick off a free workshop in their Mounira office, hosted by composer and musician Qaïs Saadi, who will discuss current Arab music mixes, on June 8th. Following up with their monthly jam sessions, organised in partnership with Cairo Jazz Festival director Amroh Salah, this month the sessions will be open to all musicians who wish to perform on stage on Jun 11th at 21 at their patio in Mounira.

Cinema and music will also be the perfect match this month, as IFE presents a programme of fiction and documentary films revolving around the theme “music and communities” to spark discussion on the social role of music within communities. The screenings will take place on June 9th and June 15th at 7pm, followed by discussions with guests and the audience at IFE Mounira.

For literature lovers, the institute will offer a “soirée littéraire” entitled Lights of the East, inviting participants to meet Sonallah Ibrahim and his translator Richard Jacquemond, in their Alexandria office on June 9th.
