Mohamed Diab's Clash Excluded From 2017 Oscar Nominations

Despite winning multiple awards and receiving praise from Tom Hanks, Mohamed Diab's Clash will sadly not be competing at the 89th Academy Awards. Here's the complete list of 2017 Oscar nominations.

Egyptians will be crushed to hear that despite receiving several international awards, Egypt’s Mohamed Diab’s film Clash (Eshtebak) failed to earn a spot in the foreign film category at the 2017 Oscars.

On Tuesday, the 89th Academy Awards announced the final nominations for the highly anticipated 2017 Oscar awards. For many Egyptians, this felt like the year they would see a film finally receive a nod at the Academy Awards, especially when Tom Hanks himself sends a letter to Diab expressing how much he loved the picture. Sadly, that wasn’t the case and although we’re bummed out by Diab’s and Clash's exclusion, we will live, and, probably still be watching when the award show kicks off on February 26th.
