The Very First Luxor International Visual Arts Forum is in Session

In its very first iteration, the LIVAF invites artists from around the globe with the hope of creating a unique artistic and cultural exchange.

Having officially started on the 18th of February and running all the way till the 25th, the Luxor International Visual Arts Forum is well underway, with artists hailing from a culturally diverse mix of nine countries; Egypt, Hungary, Italy, Kuwait, Poland, South Korea, Sudan, Spain and Tunisia. Around 100 unique works of arts, visuals and other works will be presented in one large group exhibition as a finale to the forum.

The forum, spearheaded by Safia Qabani - Dean of Fine Arts at Helwan University - will host three main events; a symposium for professionals featuring 20 artists, the first of which having been opened by head of the Italian cultural institute in Cairo, Paolo Sabbatini. There’s also a young artists workshop featuring 10 participants as well as the Luxor Salon of Visual Arts.

Cultural diversity aside, the first edition of LIVAF has already sprouted a variety in artistic perspectives, with sculptors, painters, photographers and video artists, as well as performance artists, coming together under one arts ceiling.

The very nature of the forum, as well as the various backgrounds and age demographics of its patrons, artists and respective cultures, creates a near-perfect environment for spawning creative and constructive dialogues between all parties, according to Mohamed Oraby, general coordinator to the forum. In addition, it also aims to contribute to the development of the visual arts movement of the Arab world. In the wider scope of the country, it could well bring the city of Luxor back into the artistic spotlight, considering as how it was once the cultural, artistic and literary capital of the ancient world.
