Breaking: Alaa and Gamal Mubarak Released from Prison

Another dark day in Egypt as Hosni Mubarak's two sons Alaa and Gamal Mubarak have officially been released from prison early this morning.

The story breaks as prison officials tell Reuters news agency that the sons have been released just one day after the anniversary of the uprising that toppled their father. The two sons have been implicated in several corruption charges. However an Egyptian court last week ordered their release citing that they had served the maximum pre-trial detention pending a retrial. The decision is sure to spark outrage as many consider Mubarak's sons synonymous with corruption.

Originally state media reported on Friday that they had been released, but quickly corrected the statement saying that a last minute decision has delayed their release in hopes of avoiding inflaming opponents of the new government on the eve of the January 25th anniversary.

As it stands, Mubarak's sons will be free men as they await the retrial on the charges of embezzling at least 16$ million earmarked for maintaining the presidential palaces.
