Cleaning Cairo's History

Oh sweet lord, we're going to have a clean country! Just kidding. That’s about as likely as us having traffic-less streets or water infused with fairy dust that enables you to levitate for a few moments. However, the Ministry of Antiquities is taking a step in the right direction, launching a campaign to clean the up the locations of Egypt's historical sites. The campaign will kick off in Islamic Cairo and will be collaborating with local NGOs as well as enlisting the help of local residents.

According to Ahram Online, Minister of Antiquities Mamdouh El-Damaty says that the project aims to actively engage the public in cleaning historical sites in Egypt, in the hopes that their participation will contribute to preserving Egypt's heritage.

The first phase of the campaign has already begun, starting in medieval Islamic Cairo in the areas of Al-Gamaliya, Al-Azhar, Al-Ghouri, Al-Darb Al-Ahmar and Bab Al-Wazir before expanding its scope to archeological sites nationwide.
