Business Insider ranks Egypt's military as one of the most powerful in the world based on the Global Firepower Index.
They say size doesn’t matter, but when it comes to a country’s power, the size and strength of its military is all that matters. In an attempt to assess which countries have the most powerful armies, the Global Firepower Index factored over 50 elements including manpower, firepower and budget and came up with a list ranking 106 countries. To our surprise, Egypt is quite high on that list. Coming in 13th, Egypt is a significantly powerful country when it comes to its military. With a budget of $4.4 billion, we have a manpower exceeding 41 million, 4,767 tanks – 4,760 of which are featured in countless selfies on every social media platform – 1,100 aircrafts and four submarines.
The United States came in first (surprise, surprise!) with a budget of over $600 million making it the world leader in military funding. Go figure.
There are many other countries we were surprised to see featured on that list with a relatively high ranking, including Taiwan ranked 17th, Indonesia ranked 19th, and Thailand ranked 24th.
Here are the top 15 on the list:
