In celebration of Egypt’s 10th annual Archaeologists’ Day, Antiquities Minister Mamdouh Eldamati announced via the Ministry's Facebook page that entering the country’s archaeological sites and museums will be free of charge on Thursday January 14th for Egyptians and foreigners alike. According to Ahram Online, Eldamati explained that the decision came in recognition of the role archaeologists play in preserving our cultural heritage and to edify citizens about Egypt’s history.

Egypt’s tourism industry has been hit the hardest by the political unrest that followed the 2011 popular uprising and the subsequent precarious security situation, which saw the once thriving sector shrink. This move is the latest of many aimed at reviving the industry, as the government had authorised photography in the Egyptian Museum earlier this month.
