Government Puts In Place Measures To Curb Slaughtering on Streets This Eid

Reports are emerging that government-owned slaughterhouses in Giza will provide their services to citizens for during Eid al-Adha in a bid to reduce slaughtering on the streets.

According to Youm7, the statement was made on Tuesday by the Giza Veterinary Directorate. At the same time Cairo’s Governor, Galal al-Saeed is trying to curb street slaughtering by imposing a fine of 5,000LE on those who slaughter publicly during the feast, while allocating vehicles to clean and collect remains of slaughtering.

The slaughtering of animals on Eid al-Adha is a religious tradition to mark Prophet’s Abraham willingness to slaughter his son at god’s request. At the last minute Prophet Abraham was given a sheep to slaughter instead of his son. The religious tradition continues to live on with families sharing the sacrificed animals among friends, family, and most importantly the poor.

The mass sacrifice is exercised by a majority of Egyptians, leaving streets bloody filthy, which is why attempts are being made to avoid the mass mess.
