John Kerry Jets to Cairo for Gaza Talks

John Kerry arrives in Cairo to meet with top officials in a bid to resolve the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

US Secretary of State John Kerry touched down in Cairo this morning, ahead of crisis talks aimed at bringing an end to the ongoing Gaza conflict.
Kerry is expected to meet with Egyptian government top brass in an effort to solve the crisis, which has cost the lives of over 400 Palestinians in just two weeks.
US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, "The United States – and our international partners– are deeply concerned about the risk of further escalation, and the loss of more innocent life."
"We believe there should be a ceasefire as soon as possible – one that restores the ceasefire reached in November of 2012."
The statement added that Kerry "is working to support Egypt’s initiative to pursue that outcome, and will travel to the region as part of those efforts."
The efforts are unlikely to win favour with many Palestinians who are calling for improved conditions and an end to the blockade currently crippling the besieged Gaza Strip.
The move follows an earlier ceasefire proposal and ongoing efforts by the Qatari and Turkish governments.
