22 Egyptian Startups Just Made It to the MIT Enterprise Forum Competition's Finals

The MENA's largest startup competition has just announced that 79 teams made it to the finals, the majority of which hail from Egypt. Winners will get $160,000 in cash prizes.

Known as one of the biggest organisations catapulting Arab startups to the global stage, the MIT Enterprise Forum (MITEF) of the Pan Arab Region has just announced that 79 teams have made it to the finals of their startup competition.

Running its 10th edition, the competition will host entrepreneurs from 11 Arab countries, the majority of which – 22 - hail from Egypt. With an unprecedented turnout of over 8,272 applications, the event will also feature 11 teams from Lebanon, 10 from the United Arab Emirates, 8 from Jordan, 6 from Tunisia, 5 from Morocco, 3 from Bahrain, 2 from Sudan, 2 from Libya, and one from Algeria. On the other hand, 9 Saudi Arabian teams hailing from the MITEF Saudi Competition will be added to the list in March.

Launched in 2005, the MIT Enterprise Forum of the Pan Arab Region is one of the 28 worldwide chapters of the MIT Enterprise Forum Global, and has been the launching pad for many of Egypt’s most successful startups, including Instabug, Supermama, and more recently, Tutorama.

Hala Fadel, chair of the MITEF Pan Arab, announced the team has great expectations, both in terms of their ideas startups, or social entrepreneurship tracks. The winning teams will participate in the pre-boot camp training in March across Egypt, Jordan, and the UAE, in a competition that will conclude with a four-day event on April 24th in Bahrain, where the final’s winners will be awarded over $160,000 in cash prizes.
