Assassin's Creed: Origins Predicted Discovery Of Pyramid Void

Meanwhile, Zahi Hawass also says it's not even a discovery.

While the discovery of a hidden ‘void’ in the Great Pyramid Khufu last week was stunning, the find’s significance was subject of debate from the beginning.

Now, as former antiquities minister Zahi Hawass claims the discovery was already known, Forbes found that the “chamber” in question already exists in the virtual world.

Ubisoft’s new game, Assassin’s Creed: Origins, already includes a chamber inside the world’s most famous pyramid, which is depicted as a room filled with treasure in the game.

The Origins game is set at the end of the ancient Egyptian era, under the reign of Cleopatra. At the time, the pyramids were older to the queen than she is to us.

“We have long believed that Jean-Pierre Houdin’s theories about the inner ramps and royal circuit with two antechambers inside the Great Pyramid are probably the most credible,” Maxime Durand, historian on the Assassin's Creed franchise told Forbes, adding, “which is why we decided to use them in the game.”

"We were betting on the fact that these secret locations inside of the Great Pyramid would probably be discovered in the near future, so we wanted to allow players the chance to visit them in advance,” he said.

The free-play game is perhaps the most accurate digital recreation of ancient Egypt, as the game brought on Durand, who has a degree in history from Université de Montréal, to maximise authenticity.

Hawass, however, continued to downplay the significance of the find, and questioned if it was even a discovery at all.

“I do believe that we have to be always very careful about the word ‘void’ because the Great Pyramid is full of voids,” Hawass told Ahram Online, going on to say, “This project should be scientific and not a search for hidden passages and chambers to attract public attention and those who like to claim that the pyramids were built by aliens. I used to call some of them ‘pyramidiots’.”
