'Solar Electric Vehicle - CUT' is a group of engineering students from Cairo University formed earlier this year with the aim of planting the seeds for technological advancement in the field of solar energy and contributing their own innovations to Egypt’s progress in that front.

The team is gearing up to compete in the upcoming Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, a car race in which only vehicles that run on solar electric energy can enter, which is set to take place next year in Australia from October 8th to the 15th.

According to Al Masry Al Youm, the team has already designed a car fit to endure the 3,000 KM plus route from Darwin to Adelaide, the official race course. Solar Electric Vehicle – CUT will be competing against more than 48 teams from 25 countries.

The students told the newspaper that they are eager to demonstrate the importance of incorporating alternative energy in vehicles, adding that their objective is to foster interest in the field among their fellow students.
