Finding ways to commemorate the inauguration of the New Suez Canal continues as Egypt’s cabinet approves a request by the Suez Canal Authority to issue two golden coins to mark the occasion.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Finance Hany Qadri Demian who claimed they would be issuing two 21-carat gold coins in different weights to be put up for sale. The coin is said to have been designed by Yasser Saad Eddin and Salma Asaad, two engineers at the Egyptian Mint Authority.

The coin will be distributed to world leaders and international delegations that attend the inauguration ceremony. On one coin and image of two ships crossing the canal in opposite directions is displayed, while the other coin shows the canal with text proudly proclaiming “The New Suez Canal from Egypt to the entire World.” Both coins will share the new Suez Canal logo widely spread on all promotional material on the other side of the coin.

This is just the latest announcement from authorities who are busy finding creative ways to mark this economy boosting and pride-restoring project.
