Egyptian Amateur Photographer Wins Top Photography Prize for Photo of His Sad Father
Egyptian lawyer Omar Hany Kodir saw himself catapulted to regional fame and glory for a photo he had casually taken of his father over lunch!
An unsuspecting 30-year-old Egyptian lawyer has just been named the top winner at the 10th Shaikha Manal Young Artist Award for a photograph he had casually taken of his father, reports Khaleej Times. "Photography is my hobby, which somehow reflects in the way I look differently at things in life," says the happy-go-lucky amateur photographer.
Omar Hany Kodir's photograph put him in the first place of the photography category and earned him a Dh 50,000 cash prize.
Kodir, to whom photography is a hobby, was among 16 winners to scoop trophies and cash prizes presented by Shaikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Sunday.
The photograph, titled Remorse, captures a mournful moment of his father during which he was reminiscing about his wife who died of Hepatitis C in 2012. "We were having lunch and she came up. While my brother and I are young and we have our own lives, my father's life revolved around her," Kodir recounts.
