Eman Ahmed Abdelaty, who was considered the heaviest living woman in the world, was pronounced dead this morning at the age of 37 in Abu Dhabi's Burjeel hospital in the UAE, BBC reports.

Eman grabbed global headlines earlier this year after an online campaign by her family went viral to help her receive weight-loss surgery.

She and her family travelled to India for the surgery, but then fell out with the medical team who was operating on her. Local media claimed that Eman, who weighed 500kg, lost 300kg thanks to the surgery.

She was then transferred to Abu Dhabi in May, where she died due to heart disease and kidney dysfunction, according to a statement by the hospital.
