Al-Azhar Campaign Aims to Reduce Divorce in Egypt

Can’t we all just get along?

Egypt Divorce

In a spot of matrimonial news this fine Monday afternoon, Al-Azhar, in cooperation with its Global Centre for Online Fatwa, has initiated their “Wa Ashrohn Belmaarouf” (Live Together Kindly) campaign to (ambitiously) stem the overwhelming tide of divorce in Egypt.

The campaign would mostly revolve insightful videos and content aimed at explaining why divorce happens, as well as some tips and tricks on how to tackle the most common reasons why the thought could occur. The content will be available on Al-Azhar’s official pages.

In addition, Al-Azhar’s “Lam al-Shaml” (Reunion) unit will also be lending a hand, given their expertise with familial disagreements. The unit holds several meetings to tackle rising issues, offer their services via phone and even visits for consultation.

Egypt has been a hotbed for cases of divorce for quite some time now, with the rate of divorce standing at 60.7% in cities, and 39.3% as of 2017, according to Maysa Shawky, Deputy Minister of Health and the General Supervisor of the Councils of Population, and Childhood and Motherhood. 710,850 people have been divorced in 2017 alone.
