This New Cairo Restaurant Serves Egypt's First Gluten-Free Fried Chicken

Umm, what?

Staff Writer

There exists a restaurant in at Patio Mall in New Cairo that serves a dish we didn't even know we needed, or that it existed for that matter; gluten-free fried chicken. Yes, you read that right.

Chickin Worx (that’s not a typo by the way) was born when owner Farouk Kadous finally returned to Egypt to fill what he perceived as a gap in the market after living in the US for 7 years. “One of my favourite things to eat is chicken fillet and it just hit me that there is no high quality, good fried chicken places in Egypt,” Kadous says to CairoScene. “Also, there are quite a number of Egyptians who have celiac disease or are gluten intolerant and can't eat breaded chicken, with Chickin Worx they can.”

What makes fried chicken gluten-free, we here you ask? Well, the chicken itself, of course, has no gluten, but flour, as well as sauces, adds gluten to meat. Corn starch, however, doesn’t.

Chickin Worx will also start delivering in two to three weeks in addition to selling inventory to cook at home. True to their slogan, they spell Chikin wrong, but cook it just right.
