Egypt to Become Self-Sufficient in Natural Gas by January 2019

Egypt is becoming a regional hub for the trade of natural gas.

Staff Writer

Egypt’s Petroleum Minister, Tarek El Molla, announced yesterday that Egypt will begin exporting natural gas in January, according to El Watan, which means that Egypt will no longer need to import the natural resource.

“It will be the beginning of gas self-sufficiency, and we’ll begin exporting the surplus in January 2019”, said El Molla in an interview with El Watan.

Egypt is slowly turning into a regional hub for the natural trade of gas, thanks to major investment and recent discoveries such as the Zohr offshore gas field and the Noor gas field, which ranks as one of the largest in the world.
