Egyptian Candlemaker Brings Relaxation and Aromatherapy to Your Home

One of the most effective and sure ways to reduce stress and relieve anxiety is by retreating to a low-lit area and away from all the noise. Justina Hatem, founder of Jay & Lily’s, works with local craftsmen to make this dream of hers happen; after noticing the lack of creativity put into candle-making in Egypt, Hatem decided to begin the process of designing the crafts.

The colours are dreamy, like something picked out of a Pinterest crib; The eclectic collection comes in various palettes and patterns, all of which are adorned with a signature gold and rose gold, a recurring color in Jay & Lily's home decor.

The candles are aromatic, guaranteed to calm your nerves. The standard scents are Oud, White Musk, Lavender and Velvet Rose; these are all essential oils which are often used in the practice of aromatherapy—the therapy of smell. In addition to the standard smells, Hatem likes to produce seasonal smells, which she says are “too tempting to miss out on.”

The candles are made and hand-poured in Egypt, from beginning to very end. “I believe in supporting local workshops and I work closely with each one involved to ensure the highest quality of product,” Justina told Cairo Scene.

“[There are] a million ways to combine our different candles to uniquely personalize your home décor,” she said.

They make as gorgeous gifts, or as an accessory to ornament your side table. The different scents are also a good way to create a stress-free haven, as real essential oils are known to have an uplifting effect on your mind and body.
