Egypt Appoints Its First Ever Female Governor

Newly appointed Beheira governor Nadia Saleh was sworn in this morning by president Sisi after parliament approved government reshuffle earlier this week.

After being sworn in by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi as El Beheira's newly appointed governor this morning, Nadia Saleh has become Egypt's first ever female governor, Al Hayat newspaper reports.

Saleh, who has a degree in engineering, had been serving as the deputy governor of Beheira since 2013. The now-former governor of Beheira and her former boss, Mohamed Sultan, was appointed as the governor of neighbouring Alexandria.

The move could be seen as a good indication of the government's position on women's issues, as the office she currently holds has traditionally only been occupied by men from a military or security background.

The cabinet reshuffle, which included 9 ministers and five governors, was approved by the Parliament earlier this week amidst the government's efforts to ensure the success of its reform plan.
