Today and for the very first time we got to hear the voice of our taste buds. And our taste buds vocally thanked us the second we tried out The Sugar Lab's chocolate creations. When we first heard the name, we thought of Willy Wonka's factory and so much sugar, spice, and everything nice. The Sugar Lab didn't disappoint, as the people behind the lab carefully mastered the art of chocolate chip craftsmanship, they understood the perfect balance for the moistness of a brownie, they... we just love them.

The Sugar Lab is an online bakery that just started operating in early November of this year, delivering baked goodies for your pleasure. Their menu might be small at the moment, including only cookies, Oreo truffles, brownies and some cakes, but it's still pretty big in the taste department.

Salma El Sahhar, the woman behind The Sugar Lab, spoke to us about how it all started. “The Sugar Lab initially started as a result of being persistently told by friends and colleagues that I should open a bakery," El Sahar tells us. "I have always had an affinity for baking and would experiment with recipes then give them to friends to try. By trade, I am a biologist, so experimentation and consistency come naturally to me.” When asked about the choice to start with cookies and brownies, Salma said, “I consider these to be my star treats. I noticed there was a severe lack of well-made cookies and brownies in Egypt, and those that are for sale are usually more similar to biscuits or cakes. I wanted to fill the gap in the market by providing a consistently perfect product."

"For the start of the new year we are hoping to introduce more cookie lines, including peanut butter cookies and potentially salted caramel and oatmeal. We are also considering introducing cheesecake, vanilla fudge cakes, butter cream cakes and a few more goodies," El Sahhar shares. Elaborating on the possibility of an expansion, she says, “We are going to add delivery to Zamalek and Mohandiseen really soon and, if our plans go well, we will be looking to open our first store.”

When asked what differentiate The Sugar Lab from any other bakery, El Sahhar boldly declared, “I think what really differentiates us is that we focus on a few core products and because of this we are able to consistently produce the same product at an extremely high quality level. Also, up until now, everything is baked with my own two hands at home. I am also very picky about what I am willing to serve to customers; I experiment a lot before I decide on a good recipe.”
