8 Ways To Detox In Egypt

From making sure to keep the water coming to swapping your regular coffee for Nespresso's decaf Alter Ego option, here are some nifty ways to rid your body of all those pesky toxins...

Staff Writer

Cairo is one of the most polluted places on this planet. More than half the population smokes cigarettes every day (we all know it's way more than that) and a bad diet is basically a side effect of calling Egypt home. To take your body on a break; a proper detox is needed once in a while. We found the best ways for you to cleanse your body in Egypt. Do this and you have a pretty good set of cards to live a long, healthy and rejuvenated life!

Water… lots of it!

Rule number one for detoxing is to keep that water coming! It is essential you drink at least two litres of water every day. To add some extra detoxing power, leave your water in the fridge overnight with some cucumber, blueberries, raspberry, or lemon and mint in it. To kick start an early morning, down a glass of water with a few drops of apple cider vinegar after waking up.

Nespresso Alter Ego Coffee

Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy? For some detoxing, your morning coffee should be substituted for a detox-friendly decaf. The only choice there is Nespresso’s Alter Ego series: a selection of their best Grand Cru capsules without caffeine but with the perfect amount of taste. Fool your body into feeling the caffeine effect with a decaf coffee so delicious it could very well be a double caffeinated Espresso.

Substitute your stuff

Sugar, saturated fats, and salt are poison to your arteries. They clog them up to weaken your heart, in addition to making you fat and look old. These ingredients cannot be part of your detox-diet. Keep that sugar out of your tea, coffee or juice (or use honey instead!), and if you must use salt and oil then substitute with sea salt and coconut oil. Nature does it best!

Eat citrus fruits

Citrus fruits have the highest detoxifying power, flushing those toxins out of your body ASAP. Oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, lemons and limes are not hard to come by in this country and they will help you with your fresh start. Added bonus: all these fruits are delish and make for amazing summer smoothies.

Drink clean

It goes without saying that you can’t have alcohol on your detox. What you can have is yummy smoothies which do not destroy your liver. InSeason serves drinks with impeccable names: Toxin Neutralizer, Liver Scrubber, and System Reboot are all detoxifying smoothies they whip up at the healthy store. And while you’re at it you can also have the “Detoxifier” salad.

A weekend in Siwa

This city is slowly but surely killing you with its smog, cigarette smoke and lack of healthy living possibilities. Siwa, however, is the perfect spot for your body to rejuvenate with its fresh air, hot springs, and abundance of silence (imagine a day without the constant sound of cars honking!). A relaxed body is a healthy body. Therefore, pack your bags and sweat those toxins out in Siwa.

Meditation

Meditation is designed to help the body get rid of stress, negativity and, you guessed it, toxins. In Maadi in particular, you can find a lot of meditation groups (we've sampled Zen Space and Shakti before), with practices designed to improve your digestion or have the right juices flowing through your body. Ohmmmm…

Sleep

Since you can’t drink alcohol or eat out anymore you might as well go to sleep early. Since you drank Nespresso’s Alter Ego Decaf all day, that shouldn’t be a problem…
