Balayage Me Beautiful

For someone who's constantly trying to be fashion forward, and honestly, a little obsessed with changing her hair (I kid you not, I literally change my hair every four months) I was very excited to be switching up my strands with the balayage technique at the shrine of all things hair-related; Al-Sagheer Salons.

So of course, before actually getting on with this, I did my own research on the balayage technique. The more I read about it, the more super stoked I got that I was about to do it, especially after finding out that almost all of Hollywood's elite are doing it. From Jessica Biel to Sarah Jessica Parker (whose style is basically like my fashion bible), practically every stylish celeb out there has had this new dying technique done. In case you didn’t know (which I didn’t until this day of hair transformation at Al-Sagheer), balayage is a French colouring technique where the colour is applied by hand. It's low maintenance (hence its popularity) and gives a gorgeous natural effect - evidently.

Now, I've had my fair share of bad experiences with my hair. I tried to get it all funkified once, and I ended up with a half-shaved, half-burned, bleached blonde head of hair. Imagine walking around with the worst hairstyle you’ve ever seen, on your own head. Nightmare would be putting it mildly. So given my previous experience, I had a few reservations about balayage. But I decided to take a leap of faith and do it anyway.

I stepped into Al-Sagheer salon, and the first thing they did to me was apply some base colour. Then I was taken for a quick blow dry to straighten my hair – 'cause my hair is too frizzy and balayage is all about applying the hair dye with accuracy. The next step was the actual balayage. They started with the tips of the lower layer of my hair, then continued by making freehand streaks to the rest of my head, the streaks getting thinner as they went upward.

I was honestly a little scared when I saw that the hair dye looked like bleach; in my mind I thought the streaks were going to turn out incredibly tacky. But after they washed my hair, I actually saw that it was this really nice gold shade that blended beautifully with the rest of my hair.

“Just wait till after the blow dry, you’ll get to see the real effect,” said Heba, the head hair colorist at Al Sagheer. And she was right – as they straightened my hair, bit by bit, I just sat there with the smile on my face getting wider and wider. I was truly impressed by the result.

It wasn’t until they were done with doing the beach waves to my hair when I got the OH MY GOD look on my face. The result was absolutely phenomenal. I loved every bit of it. Actual sun-kissed hair that looked so natural, and it went hand in hand with my summer tan. Thank you Al-Sagheer Salons, I owe you every compliment I get!
