Mema El-Shafey Jewellery

We are currently salivating over a jewellery line that’s so damn pretty it prompted us to say a rarely spoken mashallah about the ornate golden creations injected with pearls and stones in fresh summery hues. The line in question is called Mema El-Shafey Jewellery, and features accessories that are delicate, yet still manage to be statement pieces.

Founded in 2009 by Menna El Shafey, it started "as a hobby… I just liked making jewellery," Shafey says. But after a few years of tinkering, she decided to turn it into a business. "I started turning into a brand, creating a collection every season," she explains. From stacked silver bracelets, to pearl-infused gold ones, we're madly in love.

"Every piece is very simple and very oriental," El Shafey says of the brand's aesthetic. The pieces feel simultaneously slightly hippie-ish, yet still refined and elegant, all with a bit of an oriental twist; the kinds of pieces you could wear to a party or an engagement. Some of the city's biggest style sirens have donned the brand's pieces, including Hadia Ghaleb and Noha El Sherbiny, and we can only imagine it'll be popping up on more sartorially savvy women in Cairo.

Mema's latest line, titled Turath, delivers more stunning pieces, this time taking on a distinctly oriental vibe. The line was designed specially to highlight Arab heritage and reflect an Arab identity, and also features a lot of Pharaonic details. Below is a sneak peek of some of the pieces, but there are more to come!
