Yes, you read correctly - cheerleading meets aerobics right here in Egypt.
TWO FOUR SIX EIGHT, WHO DO WE APPRECIATE!? A fit body that’s what. And that’s exactly what you’ll get if you indulge the inner 16-year old high school girl in you and take a whack at what all the crazy kids are doing these days; Cheerobics. Yes, yes, you heard correctly, a new sport is sweeping the girly nation (we assume no guys will be joining these classes) that’s a blend of cheerleading and aerobics. BE AGGRESSIVE! BE BE AGGRESSIVE! Sorry, please excuse the intermittent cheers we will be injecting every few sentences because we just can’t help it.
Anyway, it all started in 2013 when its current founder Samira Khalil was searching for a fun alternative way to work out. “I was looking for something new in the aerobics industry and I was searching for something really fun and the idea of pompoms came to mind,” Khalil tell us. “So I started to learn about cheerleading and then I found an international brand called Cheerobics!”
U! G! L! Y! YOU AINT GOT NO ALIBI!
Khalil brought the brand over to Egypt and it’s the perfect way to A) pretend like you’re a cool high school teen, B) work out, and C) have fun while doing it. “It’s a combination of aerobics and cheerleading but it’s basically exercise to music, just using cheerleading-inspired moves and techniques,” Khalil explains. “It’s a great form of fitness, and burns a lot of calories. I think some people initially think it’s more of a dance class but once they take it, they realise it’s really fitness focused and also that cheerleading isn’t actually easy; it’s definitely a sport!”
I SAID BRRRR *clap clap* IT’S COLD IN HERE! THERE MUST BE SOME TOROS IN THE AT-MOSPHERE!
Ok, we’re done with the annoying cheer references now. But if you want to work up a sweat and have a good time while doing it, we suggest Cheerobics. Plus maybe you can take the pompoms home later if you’re guy is into the whole high school cheerleader fantasy…
