RiseUp to the Beat of These 7 Artists at Egypt's Biggest Entrepreneurial Summit

This year RiseUp went and decided to supply musical entertainers to their patrons during this year's summit, in the form of these artists both established and up and coming.

After five years of instilling in Egyptians the love of adventure and business prospecting through an intense entrepreneurial spirit, RiseUp Summit is now bent on instilling in us the love of music. Beginning on December 9th and spanning the Summit's three days, RiseUp 16's music programme caters to a multitude of tastes. Featuring artists from as far apart on the spectrum as prolific underground electronic music producer Zuli to world music maestro Hisham Kharma, these are just seven of the musical gems you'll find performing at the Summit. This list isn't extensive, though; plenty more are still being announced.

Zuli

Appearing on Lee Gamble's UIQ, Zuli has been keeping himself busy within the studio and on stage where he performs regularly within the country and at different destinations around the world. We first heard about him as part of the KIK Kollective, and later on as co-founder of the city's favourite underground club and night out, Vent.

PanSTARRS

Consisting of frontman Youssef Abou Zeid, multi-instrumentalist Nader Ahmed, and Karim El Ghazoly, PanSTARRS is the band that shook up the alternative scene in Egypt with their dystopian lyrics and sounds. The band has been laying low due to members living abroad, so this is a one-off appearance that might not happen again for a long time.

Nadah El Shazly

Egyptian experimental music producer with a distinctively local twist, El Shazly's vocals add to her music with a 50s/60s style that takes the listeners years back. Her contributions are well known across the scene, appearing on the bill of live nights across town.

Hisham Kharma

The child who survived, no one really knows what's inside Kharma's head, or what he will play next. World music never sounded so good, except with Kharma one genre or label would not do his music justice – it spans much, much more than that.

1127

Vent resident and signed producer Amr El Allamy is a dedicated music man and DJ. His sets are intricately woven pieces of techno paradise, subjecting the user to immense highs and trepidatious lows.

Horrible DJs

The worlds best DJs, and the life and soul of the current scene within the country. Their sets and productions speak for themselves, garnering massive support from people like John Mayer, Gian Franco Ferre, and most notably Zahi Hawwas.

Reggang

Cairo's premier reggae band, Reggang, has been constantly ganging up on us for years with their established reggae sound. They have graced the stage of many Cairo venues and their fans follow them from gig to gig, so you can be sure their performance will be heavily anticipated.
