2,000-Year-Old Cemetery Discovered in Minya

"Facts suggest that the area was a great cemetery for a long span of time," says Ministry of Antiquities official Ayman Ashmawy.

In another significant archeological discovery, a Ministry of Antiquities' archeological mission to Minya unearthed three Ptolemaic tombs which include clay fragments that date back to over 2000 years ago, according to a statement on the Ministry's Facebook page on Tuesday."Facts suggest that the area was a great cemetery for a long span of time," says the Ministry's Head of the Ancient Egyptian Antiquities Sector Dr Ayman Ashmawy, who further emphasized on the importance of the discovery as it reveals many secrets about Al-Kamil Al-Sahrawi archaeological site.

The first excavation mission to the site started in 2015 when collection of five sarcophagi of different shapes and sizes as well as remains of a wooden sarcophagus were unearthed.
