The Aswan International Women’s Film Festival has finally announced its opening date on May 24th, after months of delays due to the Coronavirus.
The Aswan International Women’s Film Festival has finally announced that it will run from May 24th to May 30th. The fifth edition of the festival was initially scheduled for February, but was pushed back due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The festival is set up to bring exposure to quality work by Arab female filmmakers, with workshops and seminars to help aspiring filmmakers take that big next step. While we don’t know everything about this year’s selection yet, what we do know is that the organisers are putting together a special arrangement of the best 100 Arab films by female filmmakers, or that focus on women’s issues. On top of that, veteran actress Elham Shaheen will be honoured with the Isis Achievement Award for her long-standing contribution to the Egyptian film industry.
