‘Back to Alexandria’ Starring Nadine Labaki Will Be Screened at CIFF
The film follows Sue, an Egyptian woman who returns to her homeland from Switzerland to reconnect with her ailing mother.
'Back to Alexandria', a feature film starring acclaimed Lebanese actress and director Nadine Labaki, will be screened at the Cairo International Film Festival, running from September 21st to October 1st. The film follows an Egyptian woman who returns to her homeland after over two decades living in Switzerland to reconnect with her ailing mother.
The international ensemble cast includes French actress Fanny Ardant, Swiss actors Manuela Biedermann and Laurent Deshusses, and Egyptian actors Laila Ezz El Arab, Hany Adel, Karima Mansour, Hazem Ehab and Salwa Othman.
Nadine Labaki's journey to global recognition began with her debut film, 'Caramel', in 2007. The movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival's Directors' Fortnight and represented Lebanon as its official entry for the 80th Academy Awards' Best Foreign Language Film category. Labaki's subsequent achievements include 'Where Do We Go Now?' in 2011, recipient of the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, and her 2018 drama 'Capernaum,' which secured the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
