Downtown Cairo's Rawabet Theatre Reopens as Rawabet Art Space
Rawabet Theatre is back as Rawabet Art Space and under new management.
After being closed with the onset of the pandemic, Downtown Cairo’s indispensable Rawabet Theatre is coming back from the dead under a new name and fresh new look. The arts hub will reopen as ‘Rawabet Art Space’ under new management, Orient Productions, which are the same people behind Emad Eddin Studio, Downtown Cairo Arts Festival, and Maktabi workspaces, and other such artsy locales.
Within the local arts milieu, the theatre is an iconic cornerstone which propels new voices forward from the underbelly of the music scene. Founded in 2005 in a small quarter in a narrow street adjacent to Talaat Harb Street, the theatre rose to prominence alongside its neighbours; Townhouse Gallery and Factory Space.
The whole venue has been renovated by Orient Productions including the stage, walls, auditorium, and office spaces. Rawabet Art Space will be fully open after Eid al-Fitr, while the soft opening will be throughout the month of Ramadan.
