Egypt's Ahmed Yehia Chosen For Prestigious International Ballet Contest in Italy

Having graduated from the Higher Institute of Ballet in Egypt and joined the Cairo Ballet Company at the age of 16, Ahmed Yehia is considered one of the leading male ballet dancers in the country. Joined by his wife and dance partner Anja Ahchin, Yehia will show off his beautiful moves in the 7th edition of the International Ballet and Contemporary Dance Competition Domenico Modugno (IBCDCDM), based in Lecce Italy.  The competition – which will take place virtually this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic from January 15th to January 17th 2021 - will pit some of the best ballet dancers in the world against each other, and will be livestreamed on the competition’s social media channels.

Yehia has previously had leading roles in ballets such as Zorba the Greek, Romeo and Juiet, Swan Lake and Hamlet, and has shared the stage with Argentinean ballet star Julio Bocca. Currently, he is a principal dancer for Cairo Opera House’s Cairo Ballet Company. In 2013, he was honoured by the Egyptian Higher Institute of Ballet as the top Egyptian male ballet dancer, and established Premier Ballet Academy in 2016 alongside Ahchin.

IBCDCDM is an annual competition that provides dancers with the opportunity to network with peers, ballet teachers, schools, companies and directors from across the world to open the doors for them to get ballet scholarships and career opportunities, and - of course - allowing them to showcase their best moves to the world.
