In an auction titled ‘Modern & Contemporary Middle Eastern Art, Including on the Banks of the Nile’ taking place on May 24th in London, Bonham is putting many pieces by contemporary artists up on display, including two paintings by the late Egyptian artist Gazbia Sirry.

The first piece is titled ‘Flowers’, and its value ranges between £8,000 and £25,000. The second piece, ‘Humanity’, is valued somewhere between £18,000 and £25,000.

Sirry studied fine arts at the Higher Institute of Art Education for Women Teachers, and she later became a professor there, as well as at the American University in Cairo. Her work celebrated women from different angles, and advocated for female empowerment through her paintings.

During her career, Sirry received several international awards, including the Venice Biennale, as well as the Grand Prix of International Contemporary Art from Monaco. She passed away in 2021 at the age of 96.
