Critically acclaimed Egyptian producer and screenwriter Mohamed Hefzy is set to join the jury of the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at this year’s edition of the annual Sundance Film Festival 2022.

The jury panel features 16 world renowned film critics and filmmakers including the likes of British filmmaker Andrew Haigh, and Chinese film curator La Frances Hui. The festival will include a handful of competitions covering the cinematic spectrum from the US Dramatic Competition and the US Documentary Competition to the World Cinema Documentary Competition and the Short Film Program Competition.

This isn’t Hefzy’s first rodeo, though. He previously served on the jury of the 75th Venice International Film Festival as well as the Abu Dhabi International Film Festival (2011). In 2020, Hefzy made Variety’s 500 most influential business leaders pioneering the global media industry and the following year he was honoured with the Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres from France for his significant contribution to the Arab film space.

As part of his efforts to support the region’s blossoming film scene, Hefzy founded Film Clinic in 2006, which has since become one of the leading production companies in the MENA.

The upcoming edition of Sundance Film Festival will take place on its online platform, festival.sundance.org, between January 20th and 30th.
