French Institute in Egypt and La Friche de la Belle de Mai Launch Residency for Egyptian Artists

Besides their decadent desserts and leading fashion industry, if there’s anything else the French are celebrated for, it’s their incredible arts and culture. The French Institute in Egypt and La Friche Belle de Mai (a cultural complex which, in a further validation of French preconceptions, used to be a tobacco company) are granting one lucky Egyptian visual artist a year-long art residency in Southern France’s port city of Marseilles. The residency will run from September 6th 2020 to November 6th 2020, and grant the artist a EUR 1,000 production grant to complete their project.

The chosen artist will also be accompanied with an art supervisor for the duration of the grant, and will receive full funding for their roundtrip tickets and visa fees. At the end of the residency, the artist must present and comment on their projects to the public in a workshop, and it’s preferable if they speak French or English.

The application deadline is April 15th 2020. You can apply by heading to institutfrancais-egypte.com and find the application form under the programmes section. For further inquiries, email alice.hiret@ifegypte.com.
