How Downtown’s ‘The Darkroom Cairo’ Helps Develop Skills & Images
Since its founding in 2017, The Darkroom Cairo has become a source of guidance for both rising and established photographers.
Long before the rise of the analogue aesthetic, Downtown Cairo has been home to a hub for film photography enthusiasts, developing both their skills and images at the Darkroom Cairo. Founded as one of the city's first dedicated dark rooms in 2017, the space offers workshops, demonstration sessions, and tours on the process of film photography and scanning.
Founded by Mohamed Abdelwahab and Omar Magdy, the duo managed to foster an educational environment, becoming a source of guidance for both rising and established photographers. With a film laboratory and an extensive collection of film cameras, The Darkroom Cairo is doing its part to preserve a piece of the disappearing craft.
