Kalam Aflam’s ‘El Dar’ Celebrates Yemeni Culture at Zawya Cinema

In a multimedia celebration of Yemeni culture, Paris-based association Kalam Aflam heads to Downtown Cairo’s Zawya Cinema featuring the screening of a Yemeni short film programme, music sets, art and more.

At 7 PM, the event kicks off with a curated selection of short films by Yemen Art Base and Al Yamaniah, delving into narratives of identity, displacement, and the Yemeni experience. Featured films include Saber Wasel's ‘What Brings You Here’, Alya Hakim's ‘The Path to the Tombs’, Mohamedally Shushtari's ‘Can Be’, Youssef Assabahi's ‘In the Long Run’, Ala'a Hafedh's ‘Ozazah’, and ‘Shaqous’ by Amatullateef Khaled et al.

Afterwards, a roundtable discussion surrounding the intersection of art, identity and advocacy will investigate the challenges and triumphs of Yemeni artists globally, featuring journalist Sofiane Alsaar, filmmaker Ruba Alsharki, and artist and cultural activist Najla Alshami.

Finally, to conclude the evening, Yemeni DJs @jiffy.gif and @dob3i will infuse rhythm and emotion into their sets within an atmosphere that pays homage to their diverse influences.
