Naguib Mahfouz Stories Transformed Into Graphic Novels
The visual transformation of the Egyptian Nobel Laureate’s works begins with the release of ‘The Thief and the Dogs’.
The works of Naguib Mahfouz are set to be adapted into graphic novels, in the latest stage of Diwan Publishing House’s ‘Naguib Mahfouz Project’.
The project - which aims to introduce a new, younger readership to Mahfouz’s body of work - has launched with a comic of his 1961 novel ‘The Thief and the Dogs’, adapted by Mohamed Ismail Amin with illustration by Migo and Gamal Qabtan. The latest phase of the Naguib Mahfouz Projects puts a spin on the literary medium of the Egyptian Nobel Laureate’s works, casting his characters in a world of stark monochrome that echoes the existential, surrealist atmosphere of his stories.
The Naguib Mahfouz Project began in 2022 with a redesign of Mahfouz’s book covers, which have since adorned the bookshelves of Diwan’s outlets around the country.
