Palestine Posters, Global Memories

Looking to keep the memories of the struggles Palestinian recorded for historical purposes UNESCO has formerly accepted the nominations of a massive collection of posters entitled the Palestine Poster Project Archives into their Memory of the World Programme which aims to support the preservation and the sharing of humanity’s documentary heritage, because  the world's documented heritage belongs to all, should be preserved for all, protected for all, and accessible to all.

The Palestine Poster Project Archives, is described by Dan Walsh, curator and owner of the archives, as “a paper and digital images of almost 10,000 Palestine posters created by more than 1,900 artists from 72 countries. It’s growing by the day, both through acquisition of older posters and the addition of newly created works.”

This historic nomination marks the first documentary heritage ever nominated by the state of Palestine for inscription to the Memory of the World. This is a remarkably big deal, considering the review process takes over a year, and may join other registered works like the Bayeux Tapestry, the Book of Kells, the Phoenician Alphabet, the Gutenberg Bible and Karl Marx’s personally annotated manuscript of Das Kapital, among hundreds of other historically significant documents.

Hopefully the collection gets inscribed into the Memories of the World, but more importantly that the occupation finally comes to an end, so that this project serves as a memory for future generations that occupation is never a suitable solution.
