Egypt is still reeling from the string of bombings that caused irreparable damage to the priceless Museum of Islamic Arts. UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, have pledged an immediate $100,000 for its restoration. At a press conference on Sunday held at the museum, Minister of State for Antiquities, Mohamed Ibrahim, announced that the ministry is going through the museum's inventory and determining the actual number of damaged objects.

As of yet there is no exact number of damaged artefacts, however Ibrahim is optimistic and believes that the damaged objects can be restored. Cairo University is sending a team of architects and engineers to assess the museum's structural damage.

In addition a team of international experts will be arriving in Egypt by the end of the week to inspect to consult on the restoration. The grant from UNESCO is potentially a very encouraging sign, as it may encourage other international organizations to offer financial help.

Restoring the museum of Islamic Arts is detrimental, as it attracts many tourists, and thankfully the ministry seems to realize that and is taking swift action to repair the damage done.
