Sarrah Abdelrahman Hosts All-Women Stand-Up Comedy Show

Egyptian actress Sarrah Abdelrahman is known for giving stellar performances in some of Egypt’s favourite movies and series. Having made her film debut in 2009 opposite Egyptian actor Ahmed Helmy in ‘Congratulations’, 13 years later Sarrah is now doing more than acting – she’s using her platform to elevate Egyptian women in the comedy world.

Next Wednesday on the 23rd of March at Room New Cairo, Sarrah will host Egypt’s first stand-up comedy show organised and performed by women. The show will feature comedy acts by Noha Kato, Reem Nabil, Bernadette, Salma AlNajar, Ghada Salah, and Rahma Zein.

Kato, Reem, and Bernadette are a trio joining forces to form ‘Comedy Set’, describing themselves as “a bunch of comediennes aiming to provide more exposure to female and male talents on stage.”

This event is well-timed to premiere this March, in what is traditionally known as ‘International Women’s Month’. The initiative is a bold and much needed move in a society that traditionally stigmatises women in the media due to a culture that villainizes any woman who speaks up loudly for herself and others.

Doors open at 8:00 PM with the show beginning at 8:30 PM. Tickets cost 150 LE and are non-refundable, so make sure you follow through!
