Soldiers' Sanctuary

We recently came across the astounding photo project by Nermine Hammam, juxtaposing Egyptian soldiers against surreal, technicolour landscape with head-turning results.

We recently stumbled upon the works of Nermine Hammam and more specifically her surreal photo journal back from January last year. The mixed media photography, painting and digital manipulation project depicts Egyptian army soldiers standing around, juxtaposed with Utopian backgrounds. Hammam took to the streets both on January 25th, the first day of the revolution, and then again on February 5th.

The idea that resonates is timeless; that there is a human under the helmet with emotions and projections just like the civilians around him and he would probably be want to be anywhere else than fighting his own people.
