Lycée students, rejoice. Cairo is about to host its very first French film festival with the debut of the Cairo Francophone Film Festival (CFFF) this December from the 10th to the 14th, with the help of the Ministry of Culture and TV5Monde international network. Excuse our French, but c’est magnifique.

The festival looks to make French films more accessible and to facilitate networking between professionals, building bridges for local filmmakers to work in different regions and cultures. The fest has cooperated with 88 countries in total in creating the lineups.

Over 40 films have already been submitted just this month, which will be simmered down by a committee to determine which productions will make it to the festival to compete in one of two competitions; one for films from countries which are member states of the International Organization of La Francophone, and another for all the other films made in French.

Finally, the festival will be projecting films outside major Egyptian historical sites, in what is called ‘Cairo Francophone Film Festival Evenings.’
