This Workshop will Turn You Into a Filmmaker with Just Your Phone
Under the instruction of Egyptian director Haya Khairat, and hosted by Photopia, the four-day workshop takes eager filmmakers through the minutiae of storytelling with their phone cameras.
Challenging the idea that you need a professional camera to be a proper filmmaker, this workshop - titled ‘Turn Your Hearts Into Visuals’ - implores participants to tap into their creative energies through the use of mobile video storytelling. Under the instruction of Egyptian director Haya Khairat, and hosted by Photopia, the four-day workshop takes eager videographers and filmmakers through the minutiae of video storytelling stripped from the cushion of fancy cameras or high-tech equipment.
Participants will learn about framing, compositions, lighting, music synchronization, camera movement, pace, frame-rates, editing and colouring. But beyond that, they will learn how to express themselves no matter what medium they use. “I believe that technicalities are of course important, however the main thing I always try to teach since I started giving workshops is how to tell a story,” Khairat tells #CairoScene. “I teach them how to ‘feel’, because a lot of people lack self-expression. They do not know how to translate their emotions into art. That’s what I believe is the most important lesson to be learned.”
The workshop will kick off from September 27th until September 30th, with one session per day from 6 PM to 10 PM for EGP 3000.
