WATCH: Nada Baehshen On Passing the Mic, Arab Womanhood & Rise to Fame

It is too often that we hear the story of some brilliant Arab woman who, despite her boundless ability and stupendous ambition, has been stifled by the ceiling of expectations that befalls women in the region.

Or worse, women who have managed to bring their dreams to life, but have had the mic stolen from them.

Saudi fashion, sports and beauty entrepreneur, Nada Baeshen, the popular face of MBC1’s ‘Kalam Nawaem’, is one of those defiant women - women who we often forget to credit not only for continuing to challenge the painfully boulderous status quo, but also for being loud about it. Baeshen has reclaimed the mic, and is passing it around to many more Arab women.

On her show ‘Kalam Nawaem’, Nada puts Saudi women front and centre, spotlighting just how permanent of a pillar the women of the community are, and have been for aeons, even as the world continues to discount them. This very same girls’ girl spirit is never far from Nada, even in her business ventures, in which she continues to uplift women stylistically and cosmetically. Her spa and wellness centre, Bimin, provides room for women to receive the pampering they need to tap into their power in between boardroom meetings.

Nada’s first love, however, was - and always will be - fashion…a woman can be loud in speech and in style. Her games of dress-up as a girl shortly sparked an insatiable curiosity to explore exactly how fashion functioned in numbers and spreadsheets. Before long, she launched her own label, The Huntress, infamous for its daring and variant designs that, in their broadness, manage to accommodate every woman.

Then, Baeshen ventured into the sports and art worlds in a single go. Her business, Padel Pursuit - which you’ve probably seen plastered all over Instagram and TikTok for its picturesque graffiti wall - took her on yet another eclectic trip into the world of business. This time, she could finally engage her love for art in the process.

Nada tells us the story of how her love for fashion, art and the world of business, along with her unfailing dedication to the women of her nation, in the full documentary.
