Zawya Cinema to Host shnit Worldwide Shortfilmfestival

Taking place across Downtown’s beloved Zawya Cinema and Maadi’s green community hub KMT House, the ten-day festival will feature the finest selection of award winning films from around the world.

Amplifying what has surely got to be Egypt’s busiest month for all things film, arts and culture, the shnit Worldwide Shortfilmfestival is returning to Cairo for its 19th edition. Taking place across Downtown’s beloved Zawya Cinema and Maadi’s green community hub and café KMT House, the ten-day festival will feature the finest selection of award winning and critically acclaimed short films from around the world.

Whilst the programme is yet to be announced, the festival have shared details of a ‘Reeltime Competition’ taking place in collaboration with KMT House and community food initiative Rdna. Selected filmmakers will be put into teams and matched with ten local food producers. They will then have 72 hours to write, shoot, edit and deliver a short film between 3 and 9 minutes long where they can explore their chosen subject in any genre with whichever methods they choose.

The Cairo 10x10 Reeltime Competition is open to self taught and student filmmakers 21 years old and over who want to test their craft and stamina in filmmaking. Head to @shnit_cairo’s page on Instagram and give them a follow for more information.
