Administrative Court Strikes Down AUC’s Policy to Collect Tuition Fees in Dollars
The university's administration will have to collect tuition fees in EGP, according to the pre-flotation exchange rate of 8.88 pounds.
Egypt's Administrative Court just ruled in favour of the AUC students' parents in a case in which they demanded tuition fees to be quoted in EGP in accordance to the law that prohibits collecting tuition fees in foreign currencies, Cairo Portal reports.

The university's administration had previously decided to increase tuition fees by 30% to match the rising value of the USD against the EGP after the pound's devaluation in November, prompting mass student protests on campus. The decision was deemed illegal by the court, which obliged the university to collect the fees in EGP, according to the pre-flotation exchange rate of 8.88 EGP.

Since 2015, the administration has been collecting half the tuition fees in EGP and the other half in USD.
