After five years of halting travel to Egypt, Japan begins the second phase of resuming flights as EgyptAir announces direct weekly trips between Luxor and Tokyo.

Earlier this week, the first flight from Tokyo arrived in Luxor carrying 231 Japanese tourists on board. The flight resumption is part of the second phase of normalising travel between the two nations, as in April EgyptAir announced the return of direct flights between Osaka and Luxor, marking the first flight from Japan since 2012.

Luxor was named 2016’s tourism capital of the world by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation. This honour has helped boost interest among tourists to visit, and looking to capitalise is EgyptAir who also announced in October that flights would resume between London and Luxor as the airline continues its commitment to do its part in helping tourism return to Om el Donya.
