Ex-Wall Street Journal Editor Marcus Brauchli to Join Majarra Board
As part of an investment deal led by his North Base Media, Brauchli will look to help Majarra, an Arabic content platform, to take that next big step.
Abu Dhabi-based Arab online content provider, Majarra, has revealed that it has raised an undisclosed investment led by US-based North Base Media, a VC that specialises digital-media investing on a global scale.
While details of the deal are vague and there has been no statement made on what the investment will be used for, one detail that has been revealed is that Marcus Brauchli (pictured above), Managing Partner at North base Media and former editor of The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post, will join Majarra’s board of directors, no doubt bringing a wealth of experience.
A unique and convenient gateway to find Arabic content, Majarra - previously Haykam Media - this year decided to consolidate their content into one single-subscription network that offers users access to the likes of Harvard Business Review Arabia, MIT Technology Review Arabia, Stanford Social Innovation Review Arabia, Popular Science and Fortune, as well as Manhom, an Arabic-language professional profiles service that features almost 13,000 profiles.
“We look for partners that combine content and technology to unlock the power of the internet in high growth markets,” Brauchli said of the investment. “Majarra combines a bold business vision, a solid track record, and a strategic approach to addressing the demand for quality Arabic-language content.”
