Omooma, a UAE-based online platform for maternal health and wellness, has raised $2.5 million in funding from E20 Investment LTD.

The Arabic-language content platform, which has an estimated annual audience of 4.5 million women across Arabic-speaking countries, plans to use the funding to 10,000 paid subscribers by the end of 2022.

Founded in 2021, the platform offers access to a stream of at-your pace learning on motherhood-related courses that offer experts’ advice, sharing necessary information on such topics as the first menstrual cycle, parenthood and menopause.  Its goal is to equip Arab women with the knowledge they need to support their journey through motherhood conveniently and privately.

Femtech startups have been steadily growing globally and in the Middle East. These types of startups leverage technology to focus on women’s health and wellness, from fertility and period-tracking apps to pregnancy care and sexual wellness. Globally, the femtech market is set to be worth $50 billion by 2025, according to research firm Frost & Sullivan.

Regionally, femtech is projected to reach $3.8 billion by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 15% during the forecast period from 2021 to 2031, according to a 2021 FemTech Analytics report. One femtech startup that is making headway in the Middle East is UAE-based Nabta Health, a platform that provides health insights and diagnostic services on issues surrounding fertility, conception and overall health. It raised $1.5 million in funding this year.

To date, Omooma provides a library of in-depth blogs and high-quality video courses featuring scientific advice by a roster of Arab medical, lifestyle, well-being and financial experts from across the region.

Looking to the future, the startup plans to offer its motherhood video courses to hospitals, clinics and medical practitioners as well as companies and organisations who want to support their female patients or employees.
