UAE Mental-Healthtech Startup Takalam Raises $1M Pre-Seed
In the wake of the pandemic’s impact on mental health, Takalam has emerged, offering an online counseling platform.
UAE-based online counseling startup, Takalam, has closed a $1 million pre-seed round led by Emirates Angels members alongside Nowaisi Investments, Plug n Play as well as an unnamed Jordan-based fund.
Established in 2020 by Khawla Hammad, the online platform offers fuss-free, interactive counseling services with a fully-integrated video, call, and messaging interface as well as an option granting complete anonymity. The award-winning platform connects you to mental health experts in a direct manner in tandem with therapeutic tools and self-help services; ultimately, elevating the influence of AI in creating comprehensive virtual spaces.
Chairman of The Emirates Angel Investors Association, Masaood Al Masaood expressed his enthusiasm for the platform, hailing it for its attempt to tackle mental health in a region that has often shied away from it. “Takalam is an example of a great product and strong leadership team, tackling a social issue creating impact, all while providing the opportunity to create shareholder value with a solid business model,” he said.
The depth of COVID’s impact on mental health has increased the need for safe spaces such as those comparable to Takalam. With that notion in mind, this new influx of funding can enable Takalam to focus on its goal of mitigating the psychological strain and cogent effects of the pandemic.
